Should you not wish to drive anywhere, but just enjoy and take in the stunning scenery, there are numerous walks and an abundance of wildlife which inhabit the park and surrounding area.
Red squirrels, deer, badgers, foxes and birds such as ducks, gos hawks, buzzards and black grouse are all local to the area as well as many many more species. ( Click Here to open a new window showing some of the local species that have been seen)

However, the park is also well situated to use as a central touring base with the Scottish border towns of Jedburgh, Hawick, Galashiels, Selkirk and Kelso within 1 hours drive, with Edinburgh only 68 miles North.

Once again within 1 hours drive travelling south this time, on un-crowded roads will allow you to visit Hexham and Hadrians Wall country along with Newcastle and Gateshead Metro Centre.

Why not visit Northumberlands Heritage Coast with its beautiful beaches at Amble, Seahouses, Craster and Warkworth to name but a few. While in that area driving over the causeway to Holy Island is a must.

Golf: - Hawick, Kelso, Slayley, Hexham, Bellingham and many more courses within a short drive.

Fishing: - Kielder, Fontburn Reservoir + local river & sea fishing.

Sailing & Windsurfing: - For those who wish something a little more energetic various inland water sports at Kielder Water.

Castles & Houses:- There are over 500 castles and houses in Northumberland and the Scottish borders.

Hadrians Wall: - Discover ancient Northumbria. Follow the paths the Romans took almost 2000 years ago by visiting hadrians wall and the many forts which bring this magnificent region to life.

Newcastle/Gateshead & The Metro Centre: -
Try an evening out, with Chinatown, theatreland and as with all large cities lots of shopping facilities. A short trip over the Tyne to Gateshead will bring you to Europes largest indoor shopping centre the Metro Centre a state of the art shopping centre with a childrens playland at Metroland. Everything you will ever need all housed under one roof with loads of parking available.
